Work experience
JOANN Fabric and Craft Stores
February 2017 - Present
Associate Application Engineer
As an Application Engineer in the Enterprise Applications department, I have quite a few responsibilities. We use the WebFOCUS platform for our enterprise reporting and BI, and my team is responsible for creating reporting objects as well as HTML Selections screens and Enterprise reports to allow our users to query our database safely and - more importantly - on their own at their own pace I develop these in App Studio, in addition to making changes on our server to facilitate changes.
In addition to WebFOCUS, I also have responsibility over our Python repository. We use the Django framework to query our database and create sales extracts for third party vendors. I created 3 of them personally, but have overseen their maintenance for the majority of my time in this role.
I am also part of an On-Call rotation for our 24/7 schedule. This requires knowledge of all of our systems and the batch schedule so that we can adequately support our systems.
Simplex-IT
December 2016 - February 2017
Technical Documentation Specialist
Simplex-IT is a small business working to help other small businesses. They're growing, which is great, but it also means they've outgrown their need for their Microsoft SharePoint file system. Their information fits much better into the framework of IT Glue. My main role was transferring their vital information from SharePoint to the correct parts of IT Glue.
Chartwells
October 2014 - May 2016
Food Service Worker
I worked pretty exclusively for the Marco's Pizza location within the Falcon's Nest for BGSU. The company that runs this is Chartwells, owned by the Compass Group. I took customer orders, and worked in the kitchen, facilitating around 100 food items per shift. I learned to work with my co-workers in a fast-paced environment, handling the pressure of floods of orders with ease. Again, many lasting friendships started making pizzas.
Swagelok
May 2015 - August 2015
B2B Developer Intern
My first time working in a professional environment really taught me a lot about the professional world and how I could be a better part of it. My role within the Business to Business (B2B) team started with working through a massive backlog of errors in their system. I gained familiarity with and used Microsoft Excel to track my progress as I worked through more than 500 invoices. Each of these had errors that had stopped them from going to the customer, and thus from getting paid. I became more familiar with Microsoft Outlook, as well as the web application used, Ariba Supplier Network.
It was an exciting experience for me, especially getting to meet so many professionals. I got to work with my team to solve real problems facing the company, and made lasting friendships.
McDonald's
June 2013 - August 2014
Crew Member
In my position at McDonald's, I worked almost exclusively in the front and back booth, and on the inside front counter. I worked with customers face to face to take their order, exchange cash or credit card payment for their order, hand out food and drinks, and facilitate the putting together of their meals. This face to face interaction and dependency on my own ability allowed me to grow into a more social person. I came to recognize regular customers and made good friendships with several of my coworkers.
Stow-Munroe Falls High School
July 2010 - May 2012
Technology Working Experience Student
The Technology Working Experience (TWE) is a program designed for high school students to get experience working in the technology industry. The TWE team was tech support for the school, working with the full-time tech support to troubleshoot issues There were several computer carts full of Apple Macbooks, the library and several other labs had Dell Desktops, and almost all teachers had Lenovo laptops.
My first summer with TWE, the whole school district's Apple Airports were upgraded, and caused every single macbook that wasn't upgraded to OSX to hit kernel panic. As such, we were tasked with reimaging and repairing each of these macbooks.
